2010 Hawaii at USC to be played as scheduled

The season opener for both the Hawaii Warriors and the USC Trojans will be played as scheduled, the NCAA has announced. The two teams will meet in Honolulu on Thursday, September 2, 2010 (11:00 p.m. ET – ESPN).

Recent sanctions against USC had put the game in possible jeopardy. Since they are now on probation, the Trojans are prohibited from scheduling a 13th game at Hawaii, as the NCAA allows under the Hawaii Exemption.

From the Los Angeles Times:

“The Committee on Infractions has delayed the penalty that precludes the University of Southern California from playing a 13th game from the 2010 and 2011 seasons to the 2011 and 2012 seasons,” NCAA spokesperson Stacy Osburn said in an e-mail. “In making this decision, the committee noted a number of factors, including that the game has been scheduled for at least five years, will be televised, and many fans have already purchased travel packages to the game.”

USC is 6-0 all-time against Hawaii. In their last meeting in 2005, the Trojans defeated the Warriors 63-17 in Honolulu.
