The Minnesota Golden Gophers and the New Mexico State Aggies have finalized a 2013-14 home-and-home football series, the Star Tribune has reported.

In the first game of the series on Sept. 7, 2013, Minnesota will travel to Las Cruces to face New Mexico State at Aggie Memorial Stadium. The second and final game will be hosted by the Gophers on Sept. 13, 2014 at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

Minnesota was previously slated to face North Carolina on the same two dates, but the Gophers canceled the series and payed the Tar Heels an $800,000 buyout.

Minnesota and New Mexico State also have a previously signed agreement to meet at TCF Bank Stadium on Sept. 1, 2016. The two schools met for the first time last season in Minneapolis with New Mexico State coming away with a 28-21 victory.

New Mexico State, who will play as an FBS Independent in 2013, now has nine games for their 2013 football schedule. The Aggies are slated to host Rice, Idaho, Minnesota, and UTEP and travel to Texas, UCLA, New Mexico, Idaho, and Florida Atlantic. NMSU is also rumored to be hosting Abilene Christian in 2013.

As for Minnesota, their 2013 and 2014 football schedules are once again complete. Non-conference opponents in 2013 include UNLV, at New Mexico State, Western Illinois, and San Jose State, while the 2014 season features Eastern Illinois, Middle Tennessee, New Mexico State, and San Jose State.

Very interesting that Minnesota finalized this when the Big Ten is talking about going to a 9 game conference schedule when Maryland and Rutger join. Doesn’t make alot sense on the Gophers part, but hey they were willing to pay UNC $800k to drop from their schedule so who knows what their thinking.

I’m from Minnesota and have season tickets and this new approach of all cupcakes is not sitting well. We the fans liked the USC and one biggie per year on the non conference schedule. We feel like Wisconsin use to be just short time ago and only schedule “The Little Sisters of the Blind & Poor” on the NC schedule. This will not make Minnesota better.

Way to trade up, MN. Home & home w/an NMSU? If you would have been patient, you could have played, Wake Forrest, Duke, Syracuse, Missouri, or one of the other ACC who needed an extra game when the conference changed plans. ACC should have stayed at 9 conference for just this year. http://wp.me/p1ZYxe-rb
