The Charlotte 49ers have added the Eastern Michigan Eagles and the Elon Phoenix to their future football schedules, the school announced today. Both contracts are for home-and-home series.

Charlotte will host Eastern Michigan at McColl-Richardson Field on Sept. 3, 2016. The 49ers will then travel to meet the Eagles at Rynearson Stadium in Ypsilanti on Sept. 2, 2017.

On Sept. 20, 2014, Charlotte will travel to face Elon, an FCS school. The 49ers will then host the Phoenix on Oct. 1, 2016.

“We are excited about announcing these additions,” said 49ers head coach Brad Lambert. “These games give our schedule some of the variety we want — our goal is to play division I schools from a variety of conferences.  It’s great to have another school from our region, both for our team and our fans, and I like that we’ve been able to reach out to different regions, as well.”

The 2013 football season will be the first for Charlotte. They will compete as an FCS Independent for two seasons before moving up to the Football Bowl Subdivision in 2015 and joining Conference USA.

FBSchedules.com has also learned that Charlotte will host Georgia State on Sept. 9, 2017. The two schools agreed to a game in 2015 last summer and were discussing the date for the second game of the series.

According to the contract, the 2015/17 games are a home-and-home series with a $200,000 cancellation fee for each game. In addition, Georgia State reserves the right to move the 2015 game, currently set for Thursday, Sept. 3, to either Wednesday, Sept. 2 or Friday, Sept. 4, 2015 if the Atlanta Falcons are playing at the Georgia Dome that weekend.
